Purpose-to evaluate amount and compare the Surgically induced astigmatism after superior, superotemporal and temporal incisions in small inciSion cataract surgery.material andmethod-Randomized prospective comparative study.150 eyes of patient attending ophthalmology OPD studied.
Randomly assigned to 3 groups.50 each.group A patient underwent superior tunnel incision, group B superotemporal and group C temporal incision.all grades of cataract included.pathologies of anterior and posterior segment excluded.Patient examined for BCVA,keratometry on 1st ,7th and 45th postoperative day.mean SIA on 45th day.SIA calculated by vector analysis method.
Discussion-Mean SIA in group A was -2.05,in group B 0.53 and in group C it was 0.46.the p value<0.0016,which is highly significant.Conclusion-small incision cataract surgery which is done with a temporal and superotemporal approach provides a better quality of vision due to a significantly less surgically induced astigmatism than the superior approach.
