AIM-To evaluate dry eye syndrome in active vernal keratoconjunctivitis in comparison to normal healthy paediatric population.

METHODOLOGY-Prospective,observational, comparative study of 62pts(31 healthy,31pts with active VKC),aged 7-18 yrs(mean 12.2±2yrs) attending R.I.O from Oct 2014-April 2016.Complete eye examination,including BCVA,slitlamp biomicroscopy,Tear break-up time(TBUT),tear meniscus height, corneal fluorescein and Schirmer test done. OSDI questionnaire was used.

RESULT-In comparison to control group, pts with active VKC showed significant increase in features of ocular surface disorders.Pt having giant papillae and punctate keratitis had negative correlation with dry eye features(p<0.05).Out of 31active VKC pts 23pts(74%) had dry eye overlapping features like↓Tear meniscus height,TBUT,Schirmer score(p<0.05).

CONCLUSION-Pts having symptoms of VKC also have overlapping dry eye features more with corneal lesions which should be diagnosed and treated to reduce ocular morbidity.
