PURPOSE : To assess effect of using intracameral moxifloxacin following cataract surgery on the incidence and severity of postoperative endophthalmitis

METHODS: Retrospective study involving 222 eyes .Patients were divided into two groups: group 1 (without IC moxifloxacin), cataract surgery (145433) from September 2013 – November 2014 and group 2 (with IC moxifloxacin), cataract surgery (153081) from December 2014- February 2016

RESULTS: Incidence of endophthalmitis was 0.096% in group 1 and 0.059% in group 2 . 40% patients in group 1 and 20.88% patients in group 2 had severe endophthalmitis. The final visual outcome was HM or less in 59 and 20 patients and group 1 and group 2 respectively

CONCLUSION: Intracameral moxifloxacin after cataract surgery helps reducing the incidence and severity of endophthalmitis with better visual outcomes following intervention. Thus, it should be routinely used after cataract surgery as it reduces the endophthalmitis by two folds
