PURPOSE: To report a rare case of macular telengectasia type 1.
METHOD: Case report
RESULT: A 49 year old male presented with left eye best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) 3/60, macular exudatation, cystoid macular edema with subretinal fluid (SRF) confirmed on optical Coherence Tomography(OCT) in left eye. Widefield Fundus Flourescein angiography(FFA) revealed macular telengectatic vessels with leaking microaneurysm and peripheral capillary non perfusion area, with no evidence of active vasculitis. Features were suggestive of macular telengectasia type 1. Peripheral scatter laser photocoagulation with intravitreal OZURDEX injection was given. At 1 month review BCVA improved to 6/36,with reduction in SRF on OCT.
CONCLUSION: Macular telengectasia type 1 is a rare condition and is considered within spectrum of Coat’s disease, involving peripheral retina and macula. It needs a high degree of suspicion for diagnosis and if treated early can have relatively good visual prognosis.
