AIM: To determine the distribution of axial length (AL) and keratometry (K) in an adult population in Manipur and compare it with Indian data.

METHODS: Retrospective study was done on 1695 eyes of 862 adults. Patients with Corneal pathologies, vitreoretinal diseases, recent trauma, intra ocular surgeries and staphylomas were excluded. All patients underwent AL measurement by Immersion method and K by manual method.

RESULT: M:F ratio was 1:1.25. Mean AL 23.10 mm, mean steep K was 44.96 and flat K was 44.26. Mean AL in male was 23.46 and 22.82 in female. Mean steep K and Flat K was 44.53 and 43.71 in males and 45.30 and 44.69 in females.

CONCLUSION: The mean AL in Manipur is less than that of the average Indian but higher than that of rural Indian population. AL in male was higher than that of female. The corneal curvature was flatter than that of Indian population. Male has flatter K and higher AL than females.
