FP1594 : My Learning in Microsporidia Keratitis

Dr. Sujata Dwivedi, D11801

Purpose :To share experience of Microsporidia keratitis.

Result: Microsporidia keratitis is a rare corneal pathology . Its rarity, ill defined features and slow progression make its diagnosis a difficult task for any ophthalmologist . The experience and knowledge gained by first case helped me in early diagnosis of next case.First patient had deep stromal keratitis. She was already being treated for herpetic keratouveitis.I also continued the same regimen but response was very slow and waxing –waning type over next four months. On investigation,it turned out to be microsporidia keratitis.Second patient was referred as post adenoviral subepithelial keratitis.Initially he responded to mild steroids but within ten days keratitis flared up and did not respond to higher strength steroids. This unusual course raised the suspicion of unusual pathology and it turned out to be microsporidia keratitis

Conclusion.A high index of suspicion can help in early diagnosis of this indolent disease.
