Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of intravitreal Avastin in reducing cystoid macular edema (CME) in patients with retinal vein occlusion (RVO). Materials and methods: Retrospective case series analysis of patients diagnosed as RVO with CME from January 2015 to January 2016 who underwent intravitreal Avastin injection was done. Visual acuity, clinical biomicroscopic examination and central macular thickness(CMT) by Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) was assessed at 2 weeks and 4 weeks post injection. The CMT before and after the injection assessed by OCT were compared. Statistical analysis was performed using paired t-test. Results: 32 patients with RVO were analysed. The mean presenting CMT was 545.43 microns and post intervention macular CMT at 2 weeks and 4 weeks was 309.34 microns. The reduction in the macular thickness and improvement in visual acuity was statistically significant ( p<0.001).Conclusion: Intravitreal Avastin is effective in reducing CME in patients with RVO.
