FP156 : Effect of Panretinal Photocoagulation on Retinal Nerve Fibre Layer Thickness in Diabetic Retinopathy

Material and method: This is a prospective observational study. 50 eyes of 30 patients of diabetic retinopathy who were planned for panretinal photocoagulation (PRP), were evaluated. Study was carried from January 2015 to December 2015. Baseline retinal nerve fibre layer thickness (RNFLT) was measured using SD-OCT, and was repeated in these 50eyes at 3 months and 6 months after PRP. Data was evaluated, compared and statistical analysis was performed using SPSS statistical package (version17.0).

Result and conclusion: The average RNFL shows significant thickening over 6months post PRP .This change in peripapillary RNFL thickness varies according to RNFL quadrant. The superior and inferior quadrant RNFL thickness increased significantly in 6 months post PRP. The nasal and temporal quadrants RNFL thickness increased in 6 months post PRP, but did not show any significant change, at any follow up visits.
