FP34 : Comparison Between Grid Macular Laser and Topical Bromfenac 0.09% in Treatment of Dme

Dr. Mehul Joshi, J15900

Patients with history of diabetes and dimness of vision were subjected to fundus and OCT scan. The patients were randomly divided into three groups depending on the treatment that was given to them i.e. grid laser photocoagulation, topical bromfenac 0.09% drops BID or topical CMC 0.5% drops TDS. The patients were followed up every week and their vision and fundus findings was recorded. At six weeks a repeat OCT scan was done. The overall results of our study suggest that bromfenac is effective in treating CME when the OCT thickness is upto 350 microns. If the OCT thickness is more than 350 microns then grid laser seems to be more effective than bromfenac. All patients of CME should be treated as there is no spontaneous reduction in the macular edema as evidenced by the OCT findings of the placebo treated patients. In the patients with CSME, grid laser is superior to bromfenac.
In patients who do not want to undergo invasive modalities of treatment, BFN is suitable alternative to laser.
