Purpose: To report a case of Isotretinoin induced extraocular myopathy
Method: Case report
Result: A 31 year old male presented with gradual painless outward deviation of left eye and double vision for the past 2 years. Extraocular movements in left eye revealed complete limitation of adduction. Thyroid function test was normal and serum acetylcholine receptor antibody was negative. MRI orbit revealed normal sized muscles with hyper intensity in left medial and inferior rectus involving the belly. Patient gave history of taking isotretinoin for cystic acne for 3 months just before the complaints started and he continued taking it for another 5 months. Excluding all possible causes a diagnosis of isotretinoin induced myopathy was made
Conclusion: Extraocular myopathy caused by isotretinoin is very rare. History for the drug should be asked in any patient presenting with unexplained diplopia and extraocular motility restriction.
