FP442 : Post Traumatic Orbital Fat Prolapse : An Extremely Rare Case

Dr. Aayush Tandon, Dr. Somen Misra

A Subcojunctival orbital fat prolapse is a herniation of intraconal orbital fat due to an acquired weakening of Tenon’s capsule by ageing process, trauma or surgery. It is characterised by a yellowish white mass, semilunar in shape, soft in consistency, compressible and covered with conjunctiva, commonly seen on the temporal aspect of the globe. A 64 year old male patient presented with painless swelling in the supero temporal aspect of the right globe gradually increasing in size since 1 year.History of trauma to temporal side of the bony orbit by stone 1 year back.CT imaging of orbit showed characterstic finding of a fat compatible radiolucent mass that was continuous with intraconal fat.Prolapsed orbital fat was removed through a perilimbal conjunctival incision and two fornix forming sutures were taken with 6-0 vicryl in order to prevent recurrent herniation by making scar tissue barrier. The patient was observed at 1 day,1 week,1 month,3months,and 6 months. No recurrence at 6 months
