Objective : To study effectiveness of anaesthesia for eye surgeries for ocular injuries in pediatric age group.
Method : We retrieved data from EMR for all children who undergone ocular surgeries between 2008 to 2013 at tertiary eye care centre for ocular injuries. We have considered sedation along with regional anaesthesia or general anaesthesia, we had given anaesthesia by this method for different type of surgeries like corneal or scleral wound repair, cataract or vitrectomies following ocular injuries. We documented surgeries, method, medicines and complications of anaesthesia.
Results : We operated 396 cases including 258 m,138 f out of which 159 cataract, 185 wound repair for OGI,52 retinal surgeries. Median age of patients was 9+/-4.3(0 to 17) we could finish all surgeries successfully and we did not come across any serious complication.
Conclusion : Combination of sedation and regional anaesthesia is a cost effective method for anaesthesia in children with ocular injuries.
