Objective : To study effectiveness of innovative method of anaesthesia for lacrimal surgeries in paediatric age group.
Methods : We retrieved data from hospital data base for all children (0 to 18) who had undergone lacrimal surgeries from 2008 to 2013 at tertiary eye care centre in this retrospective study. General anaesthesia along with endotracheal intubation was preferred. All surgeries, methods, medicines and complications of anaesthesia were properly documented.
Results : Total 285 cases- 155 male & 130 female patients with median age 3(+/- 4.2) years were operated. All surgeries were done successfully without any serious complication. Out of these 249 were probing & 36 probing with intubation. Haemorrhage occurred in two cases & one case with aspiration; managed well.
Conclusion : Combination of General anaesthesia with intubation is a good cost effective and safe method for ocular anaesthesia in children.
