FP1679 : Study of Rnfl Thickness in Myopic, Emmetropic and Hypermetropic Eyes

Dr. Karuna Painjane, Dr. (Mrs) Dhabarde Kavita Anand

Aim: To investigate the peripapillary RNFL thickness in myopic, emmetropic and hypermetropic eyes.

Methodology: 150 eyes of 150 subjects were evaluated in this study.Subjects were studied in the age group of 18 to 45yrs.Subjects were divided into 3 groups based on their post cycloplegic spherical equivalent. Myopes (<-1.0D), emmetropes (>or = -1.0D to <or = +1.0D ) and hypermetropes (> +1.0D) Peripapillary RNFL was measured by OCT.

Results:The mean peripapillary RNFL was thinner in myopic group than the emmetropic and hypermetropic group. The RNFL thickness was thinner in the superior, inferior and temporal quadrants whereas it was thicker in the nasal quadrant in myopics as compared to emmetropics. (p<0.0001)The RNFL thickness was thicker in the nasal quadrant in hypermetropics as compared to emmetropics. (p< 0.05)

Conclusion: When adjusted for age, only myopia was associated with thinner peripapillary RNFL with emmetropic and hypermetropic subjects.
