VT161 – Management of adult traumatic total cataract

Blindness due to cataract is preventable cause of blindness and is largely emphasized upon in Vision 2020. Neglected traumatic cataract in adults with or without injuries present a great challenge to the ophthalmologist. Aim: Surgical demonstration of the clinical features & the management of neglected traumatic cataracts in adults. Method: Interventional video based series from a tertiary care hospital in management of traumatic cases with late presentation. This video demonstrates the features and what challenges & difficulties the surgeon faces while managing such neglected cases and also demonstration of the approach needed for the surgical treatment of such cataracts. These techniques also help in treatment of associated co morbidities and thus help in regaining vision for the patient. Conclusion: The challenge lies in managing these cataracts when associated with other complications, but the sweet fruit lies in overcoming those difficulties to give a useful vision to the patient.
