AIM;To evaluate and compare the efficacy of topical 1% voriconazole with 5% natamycin in treatment of fungal corneal ulcers.
DESIGN:A prospective, randomized clinical trial in a tertiary care hospital.
MATERIAL AND METHODS:Patients with microbiologically proven fungal keratitis were randomly assigned to one of the two groups on alternate basis. Group A-recieved topical voriconazole(1% ) while Group B received topical Natamycin (5%) along with conventional treatment. Patients were followed weekly up for minimum of 8 weeks or till complete resolution of ulcer, whichever was later. Debridement was done depending upon the individual response. Cultures to identify the causative organisms was performed.
MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE:Time of resolution of the ulcer,
RESULTS:Fourty patients ,twenty from each group were analysed. Thirty eight the total 40 patients showed complete resolution. The mean size, depth of infiltrate and Log MAR visual acuity at presentation were comparable in both groups (P > 0.05). Average time of resolution and gain
