Purpose: To determine the ocular biometry characteristics and relationship between ocular biometry and Body Mass Index (BMI) values in patients aged 40 years or above, undergoing cataract surgery in a new medical college in North-East India, in a year.
Methods: Biometry characteristics of axial length (AL), anterior chamber dept (ACD), white-to-white (WTW) diameter, corneal power (K) and astigmatism were determined using the IOL master. Height and weight were measured using standard equipments.
Results: The mean age was 64.9±10.66 years. The mean AL, ACD, WTW, Corneal Power, IOL power and BMI were 23.41±1.25, 3.07±0.42, 11.91±0.72, 44.2±1.55, 20.40±3.85 and 25.38±4.38 respectively. ATR, WTR and Oblique Astigmatisms were 51.4, 32.2 and 16.4 percent respectively. Corneal Astigmatism of ≥ 1 diopter was found in 39.16%. By multilinear regression, of all the ocular parameters only K1 was significantly associated with BMI.
