FP1801 : Intracameral 1:1000 Adrenaline: Is It Really Effective in Preventing Miosis!!

Dr. Himanshu Kumar, H15479, Dr.Mobashir Sarfraz Ali

AIM: To find out whether 1:1000 Adrenaline effectively prevents miosis during cataract surgery in small pupil.

Method: 20 small pupil cataract surgeries were observed in which pupil was never touched by any instrument throughout the surgery. Pupil size was noted before and after the completion of surgery.
Intracameral 1:1000 Adrenaline was used by injecting 1ml into 500 ml BSS solution which was used as irrigating fluid. Pupil size was noted before the surgery, before IOL implantation and after the surgery.

Result: Pupil size remained constant for all cases except 1 case where it became small just during IA. After implanting IOL all the pupil underwent miosis following manipulation during IOL implantation.

Conclusion: Intracameral 1:1000 Adrenaline helps in maintaining intraoperative mydriasis during cataract surgery.
