During phaco surgery, thicker senile cataractous lens is replaced by thinner IOLs. Hence, anterior chamber becomes more deep and angle of anterior chamber becomes wider. With introduction of Anterior Segment OCT, the exact measurement has become easy.
In this series, 80 otherwise normal cases were selected. Anterior chamber depth and angle of AC were measured with non-dilated pupils and recorded. There was no intra and post operative complications. In all cases, IOLs were placed “in the Bag”. ACD and angle of AC were again measured on OCT after one month. Pre and post op data were compare and results analyzed.
A.C. become deep in all cases by 16.61% (mean 0.55 mm, range 0.71mm to 1.08mm). Angle of AC increased in all cases in nasal area by 40.22% (mean 12.370,range 30 to 240) and in temporal area by 28.16% (mean 9.120, range 20 to 280). Increase in ACD and angle of AC were in direct proportion to each other and found even in normotensive patients.
