2 Cases of bilateral electric cataract are reported where in the first case a 15 yr old boy had sustained high voltage electric shock 2 years back with entry wound on scalp and exit wound on right foot. The cataract developed first in the right eye and later on in the left eye with no evidence of other ocular sequelae. SICS of the both eyes were performed and child regained best corrected visual acuity of 6/6.
Second case involved a 26 year old male who presented with diminition of vision in both eyes since 2 months having sustained high voltage electric injury 4 months back. Based on history, examination a diagnosis of bilateral electric cataract was made. Bilateral SICS with PCIOL implantation was performed. Patient regained best corrected visual acuity of 6/6 in both eyes.
We further discussed about electric cataract and how majority of cases respond well to surgery but the final outcome depends on associated ocular damage .
