FP1102 : A Study on Awareness and Utilization of Rehabilitation Services Among Visually Disabled Individuals

AIM :To study awareness and utilization of various rehabilitation measures by visually disabled individuals.

MATERIALS AND METHODS :A questionnaire based study was conducted on 100 people with visual disability of 40% or more during Jan2016-May2016.

RESULTS : Out of 100 people, 39 had 100%, 23 had 75% and 38 had 40% visual disability. All were aware about monetary benefits. Only 12% knew about educational scholarships and job reservations and 14% knew about blind schools.
24 % were already availing monetary benefits. Other rehabilitation services utilized included low vision aids(1%),mobility training(12%),training in braille or using special educational devices(14%),vocational training(7%) and job reservation(1%).

CONCLUSION : Although everyone knew about monetary benefits, only few were aware about other rehabilitation measures. This study emphasizes the need to create awareness about various rehabilitation services which helps them to lead an independent and self sufficient life.
