Our study was a hospital based cross sectional study. A total of 2315 patients, aged 30 years and above, were given a structured questionnaire. To assess the socioeconomic status, updated Kuppuswamy’s scale (2012) was used and awareness and knowledge levels in different socioeconomic groups were compared. Out of 2315 subjects recruited for the study, only 268 (11.57%) subjects were aware of glaucoma out of which 185 (68.28%) had poor knowledge, 78 ( 29.10%) had fair knowledge and only 5 (1.8%) had good knowledge of glaucoma. Both awareness and knowledge was significantly high in upper(17.39%) and upper middle (13.39%) socioeconomic group than upper lower(4.3%) and lower (2.3%) socioeconomic group.(p< 0.05). The source of information for awareness of glaucoma was medical personnel 41.23% followed by family and friends 34.32% and Mass media 24.62%
