AIM OF THE STUDY :To analyse the risk factors, indications and outcomes of120 consecutive therapeutic keratoplasty cases seen in one year.
MATERIALS AND METHODS :Retrospective analysis
RESULTS:Out of 120 cases operated for therapeutic keratoplasty:INDICATION FOR THERAPEUTIC KERATOPLASTY:Non- resolving keratitis: 78(65%)Perforation/Impending perforation:7(22.5%)Limbal involvement: 15(12.5%).
CAUSATIVE ORGANISMS: Fungal: 54(45%)Bacterial: 27(22.5%)Unidentified: 40 (33.3%)OUTCOMES:19(16%) had graft re-infection and melt.101(84%) had no re-infection
CONCLUSION:Major indication for therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty:CAUSATIVE ORGANISM: Fungal
FEATURE: Non-resolving (despite maximal medical therapy). 84% of the cases achieved anatomical success after keratoplasty.
