FP1586 : Effective Treatment of Acanthameba Keratitis with Topical 1% Voriconaziole : A Case Report

A 43 year male presented with the chief complaints of diminution of vision of the right eye along with pain, redness and watering for last 20 days. The diminution of vision was started after contact of some unknown an air born substance while working in his farm land. On examination, a corneal ulcerative lesion of 4 x 3 mm dimension was seen in the mid-peripheral region of cornea of right eye with a greenish pigmented hue over it. The centre was thinned out. Anterior chamber was of normal depth with 3 + cells and flare. There was anterior synachiae around 2 o clock to 3 o clock position of the iris. KOH mount did not show any fungal hyphae. But giemsa staining showed small parasitic circular cysts resembling acanthemeba cysts. The patient was diagnosed as a case of acanthemeba keratitis .He was started with voriconazole 1 % eye drop and the lesion was well responded to the treatment.
