FP140 : Bevacizumab As An Adjunctive in Different Grades of Vitreous Haemorrhage in Diabetic Retinopathy

Dr. Manpreet Brar, Dr. Ajay Aurora, Dr. Grewal S P S

Purpose: Efficacy assessment of bevacizumab for clearance of hemorrhage to allow effective laser treatment across different severity grades of vitreous hemorrhage (VH)

Methods: Vitreous hemorrhage density score, 0-4 ( Ref: Bhavsar AR et al IOVS 2008 and Kuppermann BD et al .Am J Ophthalmol 2005) was assigned to all 67 eyes who presented with recent onset pathology retrospectively.fundus photographs, fluorescein angiography and ultrasound data was used to assign the score. Eyes with evidence of retinal traction were excluded and follow up was three months. Improvement in visualization of fundus to facilitate effective panretinal photocoagulation(PRP) laser treatment was compared across different groups.

Results: 93.75% eyes with grade 1, 83.33% with grade 2, 57.89% with grade 3 and 50% with grade 4 VH had successful PRP as definitive treatment.

Conclusion: Bevacizumab is a useful adjunct to allow early and effective Laser treatment across all severity grades of vitreous hemorrhage.
