FP390 : Complex Interplay Between Ocular Perfusion Pressure and Choroidal Thickness in Diabetic Retinopathy

Dr. Jay Sheth, S18167, Dr. Giridhar Anantharaman, Dr.Mahesh G

Purpose: To elucidate changes in ocular perfusion pressure (OPP) & choroidal thickness (CT) in diabetic retinopathy

Method: Prospective study of 78 NPDR and 72 PDR eyes undergoing enhanced-depth imaging(EDI)-OCT for measurement of CT subfoveally & at 1500 and 3000µ nasally & temporally in addition to OPP assessment

Result: Between the NPDR and PDR group, although there was no significant difference in CT, the OPP was significantly raised in PDR (59.23±6.04mmHg) as compared to NPDR group(57.03±5.03mmHg). Notably, there was significant negative correlation between OPP and CT in PDR group(p=0.02) & also in both groups combined together(p=0.003), but not in the NPDR group(p=0.09). No association was found between OPP & CMT

Conclusion: OPP is significantly increased with concomitant reduction in CT in PDR as compared to NPDR, suggestive of its possible role in DR progression. Putative mechanism may include reduced retinal & choroidal circulation by autoregulation secondary to raised OPP
