Aim: Comparison of SAP with FDT in mild to moderate glaucoma and glaucoma suspects
Methodology: 3 groups with 50 patients of Primary Open Angle Glaucoma (POAG), 55 glaucoma suspects and 50 controls excluding other intraocular or neurologic disease were including in study. SAP/ FDT tested and results compared in perimetrically reliable fields .
Results : Test duration was shorter with FDT p<0.001 in the POAG group.Maximum difference in thresholds found in POAG group.Mean Deviation and Pattern Standard Deviation values of SAP were lower in all the three groups. SAP demonstrated more abnormal points on Pattern deviation plot.
Conclusions: SAP should be the test of choice. Matrix delineated smaller and deeper defects than those shown by SAP possibly due to larger size of stimulus but its readings cannot be substituted for SAP because of less than optimal performance of the normative database. It is good adjunct for those unable to perform SAP.
