FP882 : Ocular Myocysticercosis – Common But So Uncommon

Ocular myocysticercosis, though rare, it is common in endemic countries. It is a clinical challenge to many ophthalmologist and frequently misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed.

Purpose: To report cases of extraocular myocysticercosis and their management and outcome. Study Design : Retrospective noncomparative case series.  We include 6 cases of extraocular myocysticercosis presenting at our centre. Diagnosis was confirmed on computed tomography (CT) scan and serial ultrasound was done on follow ups. All patients received oral albendazole 15mg/kg/day for 4-6 weeks along with oral prednisolone 1.5mg/kg/day. One patient was operated surgically. Results and conclusion: The patients had varied presentation. CT scan was proved to be useful in the diagnosis while serial ultrasound was a convenient modality for follow up examination.Treatment with a combination of oral albendazole and prednisoloneoral albendazole and prednisolone was effective in the management.
