FP86 : Clinical Profile of Amblyopia Over 10 Years in A Tertiary Care Hospital

Amblyopia is a common problem among children visiting paediatric and strabismus clinic (POS). The study was done to evaluation of the clinical profile of amblyopia among patients in a tertiary level hospital.
Records of all the patients attending POS Clinic from 2001 to 2015 were analysed retrospectively. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and refraction were retrieved and clinical status of the patients was evaluated. 4900 patients attended POS clinic from 2001 to 2015. 1116 (22.8%) were found to be amblyopic, out of which 1/3rd patients had bilateral amblyopia. Most common type of amblyopia was refractive, followed by strabismic. It was severe in 63.7% and 25.1% respectively in strabismic and refractive type. The average age of presentation was 11.8±7.8 years. More than 65% and 20% patients presented after the age of 7 and 16 years respectively.BCVA was inversly related to age of presentation.Conclusions: Prevalence of amblyopia in a hospital setting is about 22.8%.
