AIM: To assess visual & clinical outcome after phakic Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) implantation in high myopia.

METHODS: A prospective interventional case study was done at a tertiary eye institute from November 2012-2014. 50 consecutive eyes having high myopia (-6 to-20D) were included.

RESULTS: The best corrected visual acuity improved to 1.0 (Snellen decimal acuity) in 76%eyes & 0.66 in 24%eyes. The intraocular pressure remained stable in all except in 2eyes (0.04%). The postoperative endothelial cell loss was 6.66% (p<0.01). A statistically significant correlation was found between postoperative central vault & preoperative anterior chamber depth (p<0.05). We also found a statistically significant correlation between vault & white-to-white distance (p<0.05). 6%eyes had low vault and 10% had high vault. No eyes developed cataract.

CONCLUSION: ICL implantation is a safe & effective procedure for correction of high myopia and the visual outcome is excellent with good predictability.
