Aim : To describe the pattern of cricket ball injuries to eye that occurred while playing street cricket.
Method: This study included all cases of cricket ball related injuries presenting from FEBRUARY 2015 TO MAY 2016.
Results: A total of 38 cases were seen during this period. Number of cases per month were more during the period of ICC WORLD CUP 2015 and IPL 2016. The commonest presenting symptoms was blurring of vision, eye pain, redness. 65.78% of affected eye had visual acuity of 6/60 or less at time of presentation. All patients reported that they were not wearing any eye protection while trauma. Despite appropriate management 47.36% of patients had severe vision loss at the last follow up.
Conclusion: We strongly feel that eye protection must be recommended for cricketers either he is bating, balling or fielding . An ophthalmologist must be present at time of professional level games.
