Ocular trauma is one of the causes of the preventable blindness & visual impairment in developing nations due to industrialization & increasing incidence of road traffic accidents. In developing nations like India, even superficial corneal trauma due to agricultural work leads to rapidly progressive corneal ulcer & visual impairment. Incidents of ocular trauma due to domestic violence and physical assault often go unreported & present late. Traumatic cases in children can go unnoticed for long time . Burden of cases with ocular trauma managed at tertiary eye care is high. In this study we study the contributing factors like lack of resources for management at primary health care level. Poverty, lack of awareness or ignorance. In this study of 6 months, 142 referred cases of ocular trauma were investigated and managed. Type of ocular injury, cause of referral, late presentation, prognostic factors and recent change in trend and final visual outcome were studied.
