Blunt trauma are frequently encountered in ophthalmology practice. We treated a case with blunt trauma in a 8 years old girl – trauma 5 years back – presenting with diminished vision & absorption of lens.
A 8 year old girl child with c/o dimness of vision in the left eye She had h/o an injury in the left eye by a rock sling shot around the age of 3 years and was treated locally. No spectacles was prescribed in childhood. On examination the unaided visual acuity in her left eye was perception of light and projection of rays. . On 90-D examination, left eye fundus showed a vitreo-retinal tractional band. Areas of choroi-retinal scar including macular was observed. Probably there was cataract formation and absorbption of lens mostly due to posterior capsular rupture. Due to young age there was subsequent dissolution of soluble proteins by the proteolytic enzymes of aqueous humor resulting in aphakia and a strip of cortical matter is seen in the peripheral part entrapped by capsular bag.
