FP275 : Outcomes of Secondary IOL Implantation in Non-Traumatic Paediatric Cataracts: Our Experience

Aim: To study presentations & outcomes of secondary IOL implantation in non-traumatic paediatric cataracts.

Method:Retrospective review of 36 pt with secondary IOL implantation in pediatric cataract managed at single institution during 1-yr period with regard to demographic data,clinical course & outcome. Details were retrived from hospital EMR, descriptive tabulations & statistical analyses was done.

Result:36 children;Median age at follow-up was 5(± 5.89) yrs.19(52.8%) cases presented with cataract before 2 years of age. OD eye in 16(44.4%), OS in 20(55%),bilateral in 26(72.3%),sensory nystagmus in 18(50%).Presenting BCVA was fixation in 16(45%) & <6/60 in 20(50%).Postoperative, BCVA improved to>6/36 in 9(25%) which was significant (P<0.008) as was primary posterior capculotomy(P<0.22) .When compared with post-op vision to amblyopia & patching it was not significant(P<0.404).

Conclusion:pediatric cataracts have good outcomes if they are managed aggressively & appropriately.
