Methods Retrospective analysis of patients who had presented with Subretinal Hemorrhage involving the fovea.Intravitreal injection of pure perfluoropropane0.3 ml was done. The patients were instructed to maintain prone position for 7days. Later,FFA and ICG were done as required to find out the cause of the bleed, after some amount of displacement occurred. The patients were treated as needed. The main outcome measures were clearing of haemorrhage under the macula and improvement in vision after displacement. We did not use any intravitreal injection of tPA in this series.
Results There were 29 eyes. Age ranged from11-80 years. Patients presented at a mean of 12.62 days.Final visual acuity improved in all cases, upto LogMar mean 0.85. The improvement in visual acuity at the final visit is statistically significant. Submacular haemorrhage was displaced in all cases.
Conclusion Pure perfluoropropane gas injected into the vitreous cavity can displace submacular haemorrhage without TPA.
