Dr. Ajay Dudani, D6387, Dr. Nitin Saini

Introduction: Silicon oil assisted vitrectomy is a procedure that can be used in the patients of recurrent retinal detachment. This procedure avoids the removal and reinjection of silicon oil thereby shortening the surgery time and decreasing the morbidity
Methodology: 50 patients presenting with recurrent retinal detachment previously operated with injection of silicon oil were taken up in the study. They were operated with silicon oil assisted procedure. The study evaluates the post procedure vision, complications, advantages and disadvantages of the procedure.

Results: Significant improvement in the post operative vision, with drastically reduced surgical time and cost.

Conclusion: Silicon oil assisted vitrectomy is a very effective procedure in patients with recurrent retinal detachment with proliferative vitreoretinopathy and gives gratifying results.
