The exact timing for surgery in glaucoma remains controversial. Glaucoma Surgery needs significant skills and post operative management. Therefore some surgeons prefer to wait rather than operate early and others prefer early surgery. This often depends on the degree of confidence and the school of thought. It also depends on the affordability and accessability of the glaucoma patient. There are many indications for surgery. Because the patient is now on maximal medical therapy or intolerant to drops, deterioration in visual fields, uncontrolled IOP, existent or progressive disc damage, retinal nerve fibrelayer loss and also because the previous surgery failed. There are myriad situations and decision making is often complex. It is the purpose of this course to emulate day to day situations, through case presentations that general ophthalmologists and glaucoma specialists face in the reasoning, rationale and decision making in the surgical management of glaucoma.
