IC35 – PHACO-TRABECULECTOMY AND SICS-TRABECULECTOMY: TIPS FOR OPTIMUM SURGICAL OUTCOME

Dr. Debasis Chakrabarti [C09377] – Kolkata

Phaco-trabeculectomy is the preferred combined procedure for the surgical co-management of eyes with both cataract and glaucoma. SICS- trabeculectomy comes handy if facilities are not available or intra-operative surgical conversion is mandated because of some unforeseen complication. Both techniques need a practical
knowledge of the surgical anatomy and meticulous attention to surgical detail like clean conjunctival dissection, intra-operative titration of aqueous flow, use of releasable sutures and water-tight conjunctival closure. Post-operative care and intervention, if needed, also remain crucial in achieving long-term success. This IC
will highlight the nuances of the surgical techniques with instructive video-clippings and the instructors will reveal the tips that have helped them in improving their own surgical results over decades.
