MIMS-Minimally Invasive Micro Sclerostomy,is a new surgical devive developed by Sanoculis Ltd for use in glaucoma treatment. This surgical device is designed to create a corneoscleral channel using a specially designed rotating cutting blade which moves at a high speed rate of 8000rpm resulting in shunting of the aqueous from the anterior chamber directly to the subconjunctival space to form a bleb. With promising outcome from animal models, the study is currently in phase 3 trial.22 patients have already undergone this procedure and have been divided in accordance with 6 combinations of device design parameters (RPM, Duration, number of pulses, Tool diameter) .The results from group 3 are quite promising.MIMS apart from being minimally invasive, has a short leraning curve, can be performed in the OPD,does not require stitches or an implant, not even an eye patch, can be easily combined with cataract surgery. It has the potential to change glaucoma therapy-time will have to tell.
