VT210 – Lensectomy For Ectopia Lentis In Children – Different Techniques

Dr.Pooja Dinesh Ghalla, Dr.Jyoti Matalia

Ectopia lentis is encountered in various cases during paediatric ophthalmology practice for children like those due to various causes like microspherophakia, Marfan’s syndrome, etc. Various methods are available to tackle these cases but lensectomy is an alternative technique for managing ectopia lentis, using modern, automated vitreous cutting devices, which is relatively safe and successful. This video demonstrates 7 successfully managed cases of ectopia lentis by performing lensectomy and anterior vitrectomy, in a stepwise manner. It provides surgical tips, gives various modifications to ensure a thorough cortical clean up, use of iris hooks for ease of visualizing the lens, the implantation of a scleral-fixated glued IOL and “in the bag” lensectomy and summarizes the results of our cases at the end.
