VT11 – PARS PLANA VITRECTOMY FOR RECALCITRANT DME

Dr.Meena Chakrabarti, Dr.Arup Chakrabarti

Recalcitrant diabetic macular edema is characterized by the presence of plaques of hard exudates under the macula and is associated with grossly edematous macula. These eyes do not show favourable response to intravitreal pharmacotherapy, laser or combination therapy. In this video, we demonstrate the efficacy of pars plana vitrectomy with internal limiting membrane peeling in patients with recalcitrant DME. Serial postoperative SD-OCT demonstrates reduction in macular edema, resorption of hard exudates and no recurrence during the follow up period of 5 years.
