Purpose-This video demonstrates step by step approach in inducing PVD in paediatric rhegmatogenous retinal detachments.
Methods-34 eyes of 34 patients underwent PPV for retinal detachment between January 2014 and July 2015.All patients were under 16 years of age. After core vitrectomy, triamcinolone acetonide is injected. The hyaloid is peeled akin to ILM using an end grasping forceps under PFCL. Once the hyaloid over the fovea is lifted, PFCL is pushed in the sub hyaloid space gently which in turn cleaves the hyaloid layer till the equator.Complete vitrectomy is then performed. Results-PVD was induced in all cases & complete vitrectomy was performed.
Conclusion-Paediatric detachments differ from adult cases in cause & presentation.PPV is performed in cases with late presentation & advanced PVR.Incomplete PVD leads to recurrences & low success rates. The video highlights technique of posterior hyaloid removal paediatric detachments enabling complete vitrectomy & improved attachment rates.
