VT104 – A case of pulsating optic disc in a child with morning glory disc anomaly

Dr.Anand Rajendran, Dr.JAYANT KUMAR

Pulsating optic disc has been reported in the past in cases of morning glory disc anomaly, peripapillary staphyloma and optic disc colobomas. Our case is a nine year old boy with morning glory disc anomaly in his Left eye which was associated with contractile motion of the disc at frequent intervals. The optic disc along with the surrounding peripapillary staphyloma contracts in this patient around two to three times in a minute, each contraction lasting for four to five seconds. Apart from the fundus photograph, we have captured a video of the contractions using a smartphone. Also we have taken a video in the IR mode of HRA in which the contractions are clearly depicted. Identifying and documenting contractions of the optic disc has important clinical implications because such patients may even develop amaurosis fugax with each contraction, as has been reported in the past. Our video thus would help in clearly depicting this rare and important clinical entity.
