FP1499 : Phaco surgery with Aravind Aqueous Drainage Implant – results of consecutive cases

Dr. Vanita Pathak Ray (V15422)

Purpose: To report efficacy and safety of indigenously manufactured non-valved glaucoma drainage device, Aurolab Aqueous Drainage Implant (AADI) when combined with phaco surgery

Methods: Chart review of consecutive patients who underwent AADI together with phaco, from June 2015 to Feb 2016, with at least 3 months documented post-op follow-up. Primary outcome measure was IOP and secondary outcome measure was number of anti-glaucoma medication (AGM) and complications.

Results: Ten eyes of 8 patients were included. Mean pre-op IOP was 39.7 mmHg (SD=14.1; 95% CI:30.9, 48.4) and number of AGM was 4.1 (SD=0.9; 95% CI:3.5, 4.7 ). At last follow-up mean IOP (11.2 mmHg, SD=4.6; 95% CI:8.3, 14.0) and AGM (mean 0.7, SD=1.3; 95% CI:0.1, 1.5) was significantly lower (p<0.001). No patient lost vision in the follow-up period.
Conclusion: Indigenously manufactured AADI, when combined with phaco, achieves low target IOP, with reduced number of AGM and without compromising safety.
