Prospective hospital based study,in 554 participants done to assess awareness of eye donation amongst attendants of critically ill and deceased patients, their willingness to donate eyes, efficacy of grief counseling, its impact on the conversion rate &reasons for poor donation.Awareness index in males< 40 yrs was found to be statistically more.Subjects with partially/fully aware of eye-donation,time taken for motivation remained<12hrs(chi2=106.P<0.0001).Subjects who were aware were twice as willing for donation as opposed to those who were unaware, even after counseling.Grief counselors(57.5%)functioned as major facilitators of donation.Treatment dissatisfaction, tedious medicolegal formalities&religious disbelieves were major hinderances.Increasing awareness in society, rendering treatment &medicolegal assistances can increase the actual conversion. Also the family of the donor should be provided incentives by means of hospital facilities and concessions to further motivate the society.
