Cataract surgery is the only method of restoring vision for those with visual impairment due to cataract and is the second most cost effective public health intervention following immunisation to prevent communicable disease. Good surgical outcomes are not only essential to reduce the load of cataract blindness but also to promote the acceptance of surgical treatment among common people. The aim was to find the incidence of poor visual outcome after the SICS for senile cataracts and find the causes for these poor outcomes.8.5% patiens were found to have poor visual outcomes-BCVA of less than 6/18. The main cause was pre-existing maculopathy in 9 patients among 17 patietns with poor outcomes. Other causes were posterior capsular opacification, cystoid macular edema & corneal edema.16.5% patients attained 6/6 vision withought any refractive corrections. Good outcomes where noted in 91.5%patients.4 cases of intraoperative complication were noted. Mean surgically induced astigmatism was0.67
