ABSTRACT
AIM: To evaluate the effectiveness of INTACS SK corneal implants followed by corneal collagen cross-linking with riboflavin (CXL) in patients with keratoconus.
METHODS: INTACS SK were implanted in 14 eyes of 13 patients with keratoconus using femtosecond laser followed by CXL after an interval of 3 days. Best-corrected distance visual acuity (BCVA), refraction, corneal topography and Pentacam data were evaluated for pre-INTACS SK implantation plus CXL and post-operatively at the end of six months.
RESULTS: BCVA improved, spherical refractive error and astigmatism significantly decreased post-operatively after INTACS SK plus CXL implantation.
CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that INTACS SK plus CXL is an effective technique for the treatment of keratoconus patients.
