FP1168 : Balloon in the Eye- Idiopathic Vitreous Cyst

Mrs. Pooja, Dr. Mohan Rajan, Dr. Manoj Khatri, Dr. Venkateshwar     Ravisankar

Vitreous cysts are rare ocular malformations. We are reporting a case of a 14 year old girl who complained of intermittent floater in the right eye since 1 year. Her visual acuity in both eyes was 20/20.

Fundus examination revealed a single, translucent, spherical cyst covered with brownish pigmentation, floating in the mid vitreous cavity of the right eye. Real time ultrasonography of the right eye detected hyperechogenic spherical cyst with no internal reflectivity, seen floating in the middle of vitreous cavity.

In our case the cyst was followed for 1 year without any increase in size of cyst or any other complications. We are presenting this case due to its rarity and also to stress the harmless nature of such idiopathic vitreous cysts which do not require unnecessary aggressive surgical intervention.
