FP1441 : Isolated Lateral Rectus Myositis – A Case Report

A 25 year old man presented with mild pain in right eye and diplopia on right gaze for 15 days. Vascular congestion and mild swelling was present at the site of lateral rectus insertion. There was painful limitation on abduction of right eye. CT scan showed a fusiform enlargement of right lateral rectus muscle including a thickened anterior tendon at it’s insertion. A thorough systemic and laboratory investigations showed neither any further abnormal finding nor any systemic disease. Isolated lateral rectus myositis was diagnosed and patient had been put on oral steroid which was gradually tapered over weeks. Clinical improvement was observed within a few days of starting oral steroid.
