Purpose : To report a case of successful correction of head position and effective vision improvement in case of congenital nystagmus after modified Anderson operation.
Method : A 11year old boy was noted to have jerky movements of eyeball.At the age of 5years ,parents noticed that child turned his face towards left and slight chin elevation.His visual acuity was right eye counting fingers 3mts and pin hole improving to 6/36,left eye counting fingers 5mts and pin hole improving to 6/36.Both eyes were operated upon at the same sitting,right lateral rectus recession of 7mm with medial rectus resection of 6mm combined with left medial rectus recession of 5mm and lateal rectus resection of 8mm.There was no postoperative or immediate postoperative complications.
Result : 4 weeks postoperatively, no face turn and nil chin elevation with vision improvement was seen in both eyes.
conclusion : Modified Anderson procedure is effective in correcting the head position and VA in congenital nystagmus
